01 Special Features & Challenges

The challenge of this project was incorporating all of the specialty equipment systems, including radio frequency shielding, magnetic shielding, radiation shielding, and specialty exhaust systems in a patient tower foot print with roughly 10’-10” floor to structure clearances. In addition, the existing concrete pan deck structure required structural steel underpinning to support the weight of the equipment and shielding systems. Rigging of the magnet systems through a side wall access 10 stories above grade was a challenge as well.
