St. John’s Tomotherapy

OWH provided planning and design services to incorporate a new 3,800 square foot addition to the first floor of the Mercy Health System’s Cancer Center in St. Louis. The addition incorporates a new Radio Surgery Vault, Control Room, Treatment Planning Area, two Patient Prep/Holding Rooms, and associated support space consisting of offices, waiting areas, restroom, etc. This project was designed to house the new Elekta Radio Surgery Accelerator technology as well as AlignRT System, an IMPAC Patient Monitoring System, and a 3D Tracking Camera System.

01 Special Features & Challenges

Construction associated with cancer centers that remain in operation always pose challenges for maintaining dust free environments and infection prevention means with immune deficient patient populations. In addition, control of vibration isolation from the existing facility and adjacent vault was key in implementing the new vault construction.
